The first rule of designing a chic nursery is the old adage: less is more.

You don't need a whirlwhind of patterns and colours to make it playful, youthful or fresh.

The playfulness of the room will be emphasised through fun, albeit monochrome accents.

Some of them will be accents within a pattern and some are accents in motive, like our Wicked Owl on the duvet cover.

nursery3

The entire room is designed in white and tan with some black accents throughout.

Even the most popular toys are in the same colour scheme. The alphabet blocks are a perfect example. They are made of wood, a natural material, with just the right colours to match the design of the room.

The room needs some variation in pattern and some minimalistic accents in colour. The white baby throw is made of pure cotton and has a more pronounced pattern within the material.

The owl on white cotton-linen mix provides the black accent, while the linen duvet cover is just absolutely cute with its white stars all over.

This is our most popular toy, the Honey Rabbit! It has been hugged and cuddled more times than we care to remember. He is a cuddler, there is no doubt about that.

But today he is also a design accent. His fur is hand-made of pure cotton and its role is to bring out the delicate pattern of the linen duvet cover. (His fur is really not fur, it is cotton. You know what we mean)

Who knew that black can fit so well into a nursery?

This black mobile with minimalistic shapes makes the bed, as well as the entire nursery look fresh and sophisticated. And fun.

nursery7

There are three materials used on this bed: pure linen, pure cotton, and a cotton-linen mix. There are also only three colours. White, tan and black.

The key for making a baby cot look fresh and sophisticated is in the amount of each colour used. Instead of overdoing it with heavy and large colourful accents, go for toned-down and less pronounced.

And last but not least: don't forget to wash the nursery in natural light.

It will look so much more inviting and all of the accents will stand out like they were meant to.
